New version of VP GLOBE

Verpan are launching a new version of the popular VP Globe.

Verner Panton’s VP Globe is famous for its ingenious design involving a transparent acrylic shade, inside of which hangs a sculptural light reflector, which we are now launching in a smoked glass version.

VP Globe is just as unique as it has always been, but will now have a brighter light, making it perfect for hanging above a dining table, in an entrance hall or a long hallway.

Panton’s ambition with the VP GLOBE was to design a lamp that could catch the eye and consolidate a room, regardless of whether it hung alone or in clusters.

An eternal experiment

Experimenting with, and implementing new materials is totally in line with Panton’s philosophy when creating furniture and interiors. So the two smoked glass reflectors – shaped like two ‘deep plates’ – were designed in close collaboration with Panton’s wife, Marianne.

Whenever Panton came up with a great idea or was commissioned to tackle an interior decoration project, he had no problem using new materials in an existing design, if he believed that they were better suited to a project or a particular occasion.

The same is now true of VP Globe and its smoked glass reflector.

An oversized soap bubble

VP Globe comprises three polished aluminium reflectors in the complementary colours of red and blue, and two in smoked glass, hung decoratively on delicate chains. The pendant comes across as a functional lighting item, which, when switched off, resembles an oversized soap bubble. Switched on, it looks like a hovering UFO.

Verpan will be launching VP Globe in Scandinavia, Europe, Asia and the United States in autumn 2017.
